What a Visit Covers

The classic wooden boat list.

Most phinisi come ashore for antifouling, recaulking and plank work, with engine and generator service running in parallel — so the vessel leaves the slip with hull and machinery done in one lay period.

  • Antifouling scraped and renewed
  • Seam recaulking and plank replacement
  • Keel bolts, shaft, propeller and rudder gear
  • Deck recaulking, bulwarks and joinery

How Slipping Works

From cradle to relaunch.

Rail-and-cradle slipways sized for the local fleet, planned around a spring-tide window.

  1. 01

    Confirm the scope

We confirm LOA, displacement and work list, then match the right slipway and crew.

  2. 02

    Set the cradle

The cradle is set to the hull's shape ahead of the spring-tide window.

  3. 03

    Float on, winch up

The vessel is floated on at high water and winched up the rails.

  4. 04

    Hull & machinery together

Shipwrights work the hull while mechanics service engines, gearboxes and shaft seals.

FAQ

Phinisi questions.

Get a Quote
How often should a charter phinisi be slipped in Labuan Bajo?

Most operators slip every 12 months, timed to the October–December shoulder before peak season. Stretching beyond 18 months is a false economy for wooden hulls working Komodo waters year-round.

What size phinisi can be hauled locally?

As a working rule, hulls up to roughly 40 m LOA and moderate displacement, subject to cradle fit and the tide window. Larger vessels are routed to Bali or Surabaya — we arrange that passage too.

Can hull work and engine work happen in the same lay period?

Yes. Shipwrights work the hull on the hardstand while mechanics service the machinery, so the vessel returns to charter in one lay period instead of two.

Do you supervise the work for absentee owners?

We do. We photograph each stage, hold the daily punch list with the yard foreman and release stage payments only when the agreed scope is verified.
